2009-10 Youth Session Held at B/W Hilltop House ! ! !

This year's class held their Youth session Friday, November 6, at the Best Western Hilltop House.  Marla Brooks again chaired this session and did a fantastic job, as always!

The class began the day with a discussion on a book about resistance to change and how to deal with it as leaders.  Lori Heimdahl Gibson then presented information on how the JUNTOS program was formed with youth from Espanola and Los Alamos and some of the things they had done to bring the two communities together.  She was followed by Rubina Cohen who talked about Big Brother, Big Sisters and what they do to help youth.  Sylvan Argo wrapped up the morning with a presentation on LA Trails and what youths were doing to help with this.

After lunch, Linda Daly and the Youth Mobilizers gave a presentation on some of the surveys they had done.  They were followed up by Bernadette Lauritzen and several youths from the Los Alamos Youth Leadership program.  Wrapping up the day were four youths from the Young Leaders program that Kim Selvage had started at the Pinon School this year.

An added highlight this year were several delegates visiting Los Alamos from Russia who joined our discussion groups and exchanged ideas on how we could learn from and work with each other to improve our communities.

Read more about the session in the article by Kirsten Laskey from this year's class in the LA Monitor on November 10.
